“Venetian Plaster is an American made term, Venetian describes the Venetian region in Italy. “ Venetian Plaster” term explains the different techniques and products used for a smooth polished finish. It is a term used to describe the rich, glowing finishes we associate with that beautiful Italian city, Venice.
In Italy, many of the buildings were constructed of very heavy stone and marble. Italian Plasters was used in Venice as the building structures could not hold such weight. Lime plaster was the most popular finishes, applying in thin layers. Natural limestone and marble were grounded to powder and hydrated with water to produce the lime putty mixture. As the lime crystallizes with air it goes through a carbonation period of about 30 days, returning back to stone.
Authentic all Natural Italian Lime Plasters are made products of hydrated lime called “Grassello” The limestone used to make our “Grassello” is mined from the Italian Alps, the highest quality of limestone. The stone is fired and kiln to extract the moisture and ground in to powder. Rehydrating the powder with water and the grassello it is burred underground for long period of time forming a stiff plaster. Lime plasters resist mold and prohibits growth of bacteria. It breaths to absorb and releases humidity in the air. The high PH kills bacterial allergens in the air. A green environmentally friendly building product.
